Research Team

Professor Rose McCabe (Principal Investigator) 

Rose McCabe is Professor of Clinical Communication at the University of Exeter. Her research focuses on how meaning and shared understanding is negotiated between healthcare professionals and the people they treat. She records professional-patient encounters and micro-analyses verbal and nonverbal communication. She also works on translating these findings into novel interventions to improve communication and patient outcomes in mental healthcare.

Dr Penny Xanthopoulou (Research Fellow)

Penny studied Psychology at East London University, London School of Economics and Loughborough University. After completing her PhD, Penny was a Research Associate based at Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London, working on various health services research projects. In 2015, Penny joined the Mental Health Research Group at the University of Exeter Medical School as a Research Fellow.
